We all love to hold those great parties where everyone comes to have a good time. This could be for an extended family or even a business lunch where employees or executives all gather in one place to discuss future business etc. Whatever the event, it is clear that some form of expert help is needed to make the party go with a swing. To see what is available in the local area, try looking up ‘BBQ catering’ or ‘corporate catering’ online this should bring up many selections to choose for sure.

Although we all have favorite foods that we would like to have served at some functions, the experts will have firsthand knowledge of what will be acceptable at the venue depending on what message is being put across. For example, family gatherings could have big bowls of hot chili dishes with great salads and breads available too. But this may not be the look that needs to be projected if there is big business to be discussed.

At these events, something a little more sophisticated may be needed, like shrimps or oysters etc, and these will certainly need more careful handling than other foods. Whole rafts of ice may be needed to keep everything chilled since no one wants to remember the bad food poisoning they got from some affair or other so this may just be where professionals have the edge over the amateur event planner.

Indeed, it is the planning which makes or breaks these special events and so much has to be done beforehand to ensure smooth sailing on the day. The event may be attended by literally thousands of people so it is imperative to make sure that there is enough food to go round too. One thing that most people forget is that there will most certainly be vegetarians around too and if there is no main dish for this section of the group, a good impression will not be had for sure.

The decorations used for the event are also important since the company may be looking for business from attending parties. The company colors are sometimes incorporated, if appropriate, and it is important not to overdo the choice of color since this could make the whole thing look rather messy.

Finishing off the tables with fine china and silver cutlery may be just a little too much if the affair is less formal but if the company wants to be remembered then they will certainly need the experts to suggest ways of doing this. Add fine wines or imported hard liquor and those who know about such things will be very impressed indeed.

The venue itself is important too and many companies these days are hiring wineries or such places for their big days of celebration. The effect of very old buildings and wonderful fields full of grapes sets a lovely atmosphere for those attending and the participants even get a free tour if they so wish. This truly is a great way to show appreciation or just to drum up some extra business along the way.

Stewart Wrighter plans on using a Roseville BBQ catering for his company’s retreat this summer. He recently hired aSacramento corporate catering company to provide food and drinks for a Christmas party for the employees.

A wine and cheese party is a classic and elegant party theme. By serving wine at your party, you can immediately create an atmosphere of elegance and fun. This type of party allows you to have more time to enjoy with your friends in a relaxed and cozy ambience, without having to rush and serve food dishes one after another. The wine and cheese will complement each other and bring out a very tasteful and exquisite dining experience.

While wine in itself can make for a great party, you can use a wine and cheese combination if you will be having this theme for the first time. The most popular wine and cheese pairings are: Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz or Sauvignon Blanc with Gruyere cheese or Parmigiano Reggiano with Riesling or Merlot. Shiraz is best with Cheddar or Monterey Jack and a lot of people enjoy Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon with Swiss Cheese or Brie Cheese.

Generally, soft cheeses are paired with lighter wine varieties and stronger cheeses with strong wines. Here’s your guide to a list of wines and cheese according to their type. Considered soft cheeses are camembert, brie, feta, mascarpone, goat cheese and buffalo mozzarella. Hard cheeses are edam, gruyere, swiss, raclette and parmigiano. Examples of great semi-soft cheese varieties for a wine and cheese party are morbier, fontina, Colby and baby swiss; while for semi-hard cheese varieties, they are provolone, cheddar, Danish blue, Sonoma jack, and gouda.

As for wines, here’s a quick list for your choices. Pair sauvignon blanc, cabernet, champagne or chardonnay with semi-hard cheeses. Choose among Riesling, chinon, barbaresco or chardonnay as well with semi-soft cheeses. For soft cheese, wine suggestions are sauvignon blanc, cabenet, Bordeaux, or white zinfandel. Suggestions for hard cheeses are sherry, cabernet, sangria, dark beer or pinot noir.

The key here is that for you to truly enjoy your cheese and wine, pair them according to your very own preference and use this merely as a general guide. If you like a certain pairing suggested here, but would like your Cheddar Cheese best with Merlot, then there is no reason for you to pass the pairing up. Enjoy your party with the wine and cheese pairings that you personally enjoy. The wine and cheese suggestion pairings here are basically that – suggestions. If you have a certain pairing to your liking, then be bold and show your great taste to your friends by introducing a great wine and cheese pairing.

With this basic information at hand, you can now have the confidence to hold one party after another. And for more fun, add your usual style and choices for the music and a great crowd to hit it all up. Share your love for wine and cheese and have fun at the same time. Without much preparation, you can now have an equally fun party. Now take out those great wine glasses and invite your friends to come over for a relaxing and fun time with a great wine and cheese party.

Before that lovely bottle of wine reaches your hands, there is a careful process that vineyards follow to ensure that you get the same quality bottle that you expect every time. While there are many wine varieties, they basically follow the same wine-making process. There are differences when it comes to the grapes that are being used and how long the ageing process is. This is the determinant for the many wine varieties available in the market.

Wine is composed only of grapes. But it is the process of wine-making that makes the grapes produce not just a glass of grape juice but a lovely bottle of wine. The process starts with the harvest of the finest grapes that is right for picking. To hasten the harvest, some vineyards opt for mechanical harvesting while there are some vineyards where there are people who pick the grapes to be used by hand. Harvest is normally done during the early hours of the morning so that the cool weather will not destroy the natural juices of the grapes when picked.

The harvested grapes are next de-stemmed and crushed. Using specialized machines, the grapes are crushed so its juices get released. Some vineyards crush the grapes manually instead of using machines. The pulp is separated and the juice now goes through a series of processes to finally exude that exquisite wine taste. For the next step which is fermentation, yeast is added to the juice so that when the yeasts consumes the grape juice, it will turn to alcohol and carbon dioxide, the two properties that should be present in all wine varieties and what differentiates them from other beverages including simple grape juice.

When alcohol and carbon dioxide has formed, the long ageing process will now take place. Some vineyards have stainless steel barrels where they store their wines for years before they can become wines that can be commercially sold. Wine experts say that wines that are aged in oak barrels have better taste and quality, and the major vineyards around the world do age their wines in oak barrels. The ageing of the wine is monitored so the proper quality can be achieved. Ageing them for longer periods than required may spoil the wine and turn them into vinegar.

The wines are transferred from one barrel to another over periods of time to take out any sediment that has formed so that the wine will be as clear and pure as it can possibly be. The wines are filtered as well for the very same purpose.

The last step is bottling the wines. Quality is checked and all the other environmental factors are controlled such as the temperature and sealing mechanisms. The corks or stainless caps that are used to seal the wine are checked as well so the wine will not be affected or contaminated by other materials.

Some people say that passion is also an important ingredient in making wines. And for wine experts and aficionados, they will share romance with a glass of wine no matter what variety it is.

Wine can generally be taken on its own, but when paired with the food that can make it stand out more or complement it, the perfect wine and food pairings can truly satisfy your craving for an elegant, sophisticated, and great dining experience. Other beverages as well have to be paired perfectly. It might be difficult to enjoy Eggs Benedict when you’re having soda as well or scones when you’re having a pineapple shake. More so with wines, the pairing of food with this beverage can be quite tricky. Here are some pointers to help you enjoy your meal with wine.

In pairing food and wine, remember that as with any pairing, light food should be paired with a light wine, and heavier meals should be paired with heavier wines. However, at the same time, wines tend to take the center stage, so a pairing wherein the wine will not be overpowered by the food can also work. At times, you can make the food match with your wine, and not the other way around. Select your food choices around your favorite wine. Make your food adjust to the taste of the wine. As long as the best wine or your favorite wine is there, you will be able to create the perfect meal.

White wines tend to go with fish or mild cheese, while the reds can be paired with meat. Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon can work well with red meats, roast beef, chicken barbeque, steaks or smoked meats. Sauvignon Blanc can work with a light fish course, light cheeses, grilled salmon or shellfish. Lighter wines such as Pinot Noir, can work well with almost any dish because of its delicate texture, it does not require any stronger taste to complement it.

The proper wine glass is crucial in making the pairing work. The taste of the wine will only be brought out by the right choice of wine glass. Use the wrong glass and a perfect meal will already be ruined because the taste that is required from the wine cannot be delivered. The meal would have been perfect if not for the wine glass that was poorly matched.

A fun way to get the right pairing is by trying out dishes with two or three different wines and determining which ones will work best. You might be surprised at what food and wine pairings work out, so feel free to experiment.

Alternatively, there are restaurants that offer their food choices already with the best wine accompaniment. For a full course meal, the meals are already paired with the wines and it is up to you whether you go for a meal because of the food choice or your favorite wine and the food choice has been made accordingly.

Remember that when enjoyed on its own, wine can definitely satisfy. So when pairing it with any food, make sure that you will still get to enjoy the wine at its best as if you are taking it on its own. Or better yet, the taste of the wine should be enhanced and make you feel you are having a five-star dining experience.

Wine is often considered the most elegant and regal of all beverages. However, just like any other beverage, wine cannot simply be taken with any type of food. Just as you would not drink a pina colada with your breakfast omelet, you cannot pair a great glass of wine with popcorn. Wine can be added to the meal during cooking or served separately while eating. There are many white wine variants as there are recipes that require them. Each recipe requires a different white wine to complement the taste, oiliness or fat content of the fish. Some are also added to bring out or enhance flavor. Upon cooking, you can still taste and smell the wine content in the dish.

When cooking, there are several recipes that would require the addition of the wine. The wine would give the dish a unique taste and can put a little kick into it. The tastes of these foods are really distinctive and it can only be achieved through the addition of cooking wines, red wines, or white wines. When cooking meat, red wine is used in most recipes. When cooking seafood, white wine is usually used as the best accompaniment. Here are some suggestions and tips on what to use when cooking or eating meals that require white wine.

Pinoc Noir can work well with seafood stew; Chablis or Champagne with raw oysters; and for sushi and sashimi made of light fish variants, you can use Albarino or Vouvray. Sparkling wine, when paired with fried food, is one of the best pairings there is. Pinot Blanc is best paired with seafood cocktail and eating crabs are best with Marsanne. When cooking you can use Rose for seafood soups that are tomato-based, and Dry Fino Sherry is perfect to use when cooking shrimps. No matter what the preparation is, whether sauteed, soup or mixed with other ingredients, the taste of the shrimp will definitely be enhanced. If you are cooking dishes with almonds as the primary ingredient, Dry Fino Sherry will work well too.

When cooking, the same principle applies, a light fish would require a light wine to accompany it, and a heavier fish or an oilier kind of fish would require a heavier wine. This is done so that one will not overshadow the other, except in pairings where the wine is suppose to take the spotlight.

To complete a specific recipe, it really is best to stick to the original requirements of the dish. While you can be creative and create your own version of certain menus, there are still some recipes and some ingredients, such as white wine, that cannot be substituted by something else. White wine can truly give the dish a rich taste and the way it blends with the other ingredients is truly remarkable.

Truly, if you want to give your dish a rich and exquisite taste, use white wine in cooking or while eating and get to enjoy your favorite fish dish in a whole new light.

Red wine is one of the more popular types of wine and this wine is almost always synonymous to romance, passion, and love. Wine in itself is already a symbol of all these things and the deep red color of the wine only enhances this symbolism. Red wine can be purchased at specialty stores that sell just wine or even at your local grocery store.

Red wine can be sweet or dry. Apart from the taste that people enjoy, there are many health benefits when you drink red wine. Grapes are naturally rich in resveratrol, an agent that is known to raise HDL levels in the body. HDL is good cholesterol and resveratrol also helps prevent blood clotting. In studies, it has shown that red wine can even lower your risk of heart disease by preventing plaques from forming in the arteries and by assisting in the healing of damaged blood vessels.

The recommended intake of red wine is one glass per day for women and two glasses per day for men. This is of course considering that you are already drinking alcoholic beverages. If you are not a habitual drinker, do not immediately change your drinking habits and take wine daily. This can even be harmful as this has been associated with the risk of cancer and weight gain due to empty calories when drinking wine. If you choose to add red wine to your diet, then gradually increase your intake over the course of a few months. This will allow your body to adjust to the processing of the alcohol.

There are many grape varieties that produce many varieties of red wine as well that are truly distinct from one another. Barbera is a red wine grape variety that has the same attributes as Merlot. A classic Italian red wine, Barbera has a silky texture and is best to be paired with tomato-based dishes. Zinfandel also works best with tomato-based dishes but also with grilled meats. This grape variety produces a red wine that has a zesty zing to it, almost spicy. Cabernet Sauvignon is the one that popularized the red wine and meat pairing. Perfect for almost any meat dish, this variety is full-bodied and its rich taste is due to its oak treatment.

Red wine will always be present no matter what the occasion is. Whether it is a delightful reunion with the family, a romantic candlelit dinner, or just enjoying an elegant dinner treat for yourself, the presence of red wine will truly add a splash of color and romance in every meal.

And just as with any other alcoholic beverage, drinking in moderation should be done because even if there are many health benefits that you can get, too much can be bad for you. Drink moderately and remember to enjoy your company no matter what type of wine or wine and food pairing that you have. After all, wine can only be enjoyed whenever you savor the moment, whether alone with your crystal glass or with the company of family and friends.

The presence of wine in any place is synonymous to fun, life, and enjoyment. Wines are enjoyed all around the world whether as an accompaniment to a meal, or as a drink that is meant to bring out the lively spirit at a celebration. Compared to other drinks such as soda, juices, or coffee, wine is truly more sophisticated and elegant in every sense of the word.

It is easy to store a can of beer – just pop it into the fridge and take it out anytime and add ice, and the quality is relatively the same for any occasion. However, storing wine is both an art and science, and there are wine cellars and wine connoisseurs that can take on the matter perfectly. For storing wines at home, here are some things that you need to know to make your wine as great tasting as it can possibly be.

- Store your wine in a cool and dark place. Wines, especially the ones capped with corks, should not allow oxygen to permeate inside the bottles because the oxygen can easily spoil wines. For bottles that are not dark in color, light can also penetrate the bottle and the wine’s exposure to sunlight and even fluorescent lamps will produce an unpleasant smell to it when opened.

- Place the wine horizontally. Lay the wines on their sides so the cork will not turn dry and any sediment will not form easily as compared to bottles placed vertically in storage.

- Make the wine placement as permanent as possible. Avoid changing the placement or location of the wine and avoid moving it around. When placed inside the refrigerator, place it in a steady place so you do not have to move it, or worse, take it out even momentarily to get something else. Wine is sensitive to vibration and movement and any change in temperature, even momentarily or longer, should be made as slowly as possible.

- Store in wine cellars or in an isolated place. It is best that wines are stored in cellars where it is dark, cool, and you can control and monitor the temperature inside. Wine cellars are already specifically for wines alone. However, if you are to store it in an alternative location, it should be stored only with other wines as well. Isolate the wines because any food articles that comes in contact with it, particularly in a place where the foods may spoil, may cause the smell to penetrate the bottle thus affecting the smell, taste, and overall quality of the wine.

- For half bottles of wine, cover them with a piece of sealing plastic on top. Be sure that the plastic is clung tight so the alcohol will not escape.

- You can open your bottle of red wine, secure the opening and keep it for the next few days where it will still maintain its quality. For white wines, consume them all immediately because white wine is not really meant to be kept after it has been opened.

We all love cocktails and spending a night out with friends over a few cocktails always equals a great time. Hosting cocktail parties is also a great way to entertain a group of friends; however, cocktails are not cheap, and if you plan on enjoying them you have to be ready to splash out the cash. Whether you’re a strapped for cash student, trying to save your pennies for something bigger, or awaiting eagerly for the next months pay check, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your tipple for cocktails because of money restraints.

There are plenty of easy to make cocktails which will go perfectly with any party without having to fork out too much cash. Here is a selection of cocktails you should be able to make with those old spare spirits lying about the house.

The key to making some cheap and cheerful cocktails is to go for inexpensive spirits or utilizing the ones you already have, plus a few simple mixers. For example I am sure most of us have a spare bottle of Vodka lying around the house in a cupboard somewhere. With this vodka plus a bottle of cranberry juice which will only cost around $2 you can enjoy a Cape Codders all night long with very little effort going into the preparation.

So the basic vodka and cranberry mix goes into the Cape Codder, but there is no reason not to go a bit further for a little cost to create countless other cocktails based on this mix. With the addition of grapefruit juice to the vodka and cranberry you have yourself a Sea Breeze. Or rather a Bay Breeze by substituting the grapefruit juice for pineapple juice. Additionally by using peach schnapps, which you will be able to find for $5 for a pint, you get yourself a Woo Woo with very little effort. All these drinks are cheap and easy to make, suiting them perfectly to any punchbowl at a party ensuring cheerful times for cheap prices.

Continuing with the vodka theme, as I know from my own experience that this is the cheapest spirit and the one most likely to be lying around spare, you can make a Black Russian and numerous variations on this classic without having to spend much at all. The minimalistic lowball Black Russian only requires vodka and coffee liqueur. With these basic ingredients you are able to add a number of spins on this cocktail. For example, with the addition of cream or milk you can whip up a White Russian very easily; or on top of this with cola added into the mix you can mix up a Colorado Bulldog. Furthermore with the basic Black Russian mix plus some club soda you can make a Smith and Kearns

On the other hand if your taste in cocktails swings towards rum rather than vodka then again there are plenty of simple mixes that can be made with little effort for a great reward. The most obvious choice with rum would be the Rum and Coke, you don’t get anything more simple than that. With the mere addition of some lime the Rum and Coke becomes a Cuba Libre.

These are but a few examples of the countless cocktails that can be made easily and cheaply. They will no doubt add an extra touch to any party and guarantee cheerful times. So next time you feel like entertaining some of your friends yet find yourself questioning if you really want to spend all that money on it then simply have a look around your house, see what spirit you already have, buy a couple of mixers, and with only $10 you can easily afford to whip up a great number of cocktails.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages across the globe. It is prepared from roasted coffee beans and it is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world after oil. People like David Letterman swear by coffee and say that “Way too much coffee!! But if it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.”

But this product which is an integral part of human life was of no use till a few centuries ago. Like petroleum, no one really took any notice of this rejuvenating drink.

The coffee has a very interesting anecdote related to its origin. It is said that a shepherd in the far reaches of Ethiopia noticed some vivid changes in the behavior of his goats. They seemed intoxicated and abnormally energetic to him. When he observed them closely, he realized that after consuming leaves and berries of a particular plant, they start behaving in a particular manner. He tasted them himself and found himself relaxed and rejuvenated.

It is said that the shepherd told about this phenomenon to the monks staying in a nearby monastery and they also consumed and had the same effects. Over the centuries, coffee has played a crucial role in many societies. It was used for religious ceremonies in Africa and Yemen. The Ethiopian Church had banned its secular consumption and The Ottoman Empire also prohibited its use during the 17th century for political reasons.

There are two main kinds of coffee beans which are in prevalent use. They are Coffea Arabica and the robusta form of the harder Coffea canephora. The latter one is highly resistant to the coffee leaf rust which has a devastating effect on the beans. Both these varieties are cultivated primarily in Latin America, South-east Asia and Africa. Associated with this very popular beverage are many interesting facts which are in fact fun to read:

Origin of the word Mocha: This is one of the most sought after coffee drink. The word Mocha derives it origin from the port of Mocha which is in Saudi Arabia and was one of the original distribution hubs for coffee.

Holidays for Celebrating Coffee: This popular drink also has its own holidays across the globe celebrating its effervescence and rejuvenating quality. Coffee is celebrated on September 12 by the Costa Ricans, Irish celebrate it on September 19 and the Japanese dedicate Coffee Day on the October 1st.

Slow & Steady: Even though coffee rejuvenates and refreshes a person in a matter of few minutes, the coffee tree takes considerable time to grow up. Moreover it produces about 1-2 pounds of coffee beans annually.

First Coffee Houses: The first coffee houses set up in Mecca were known as Kaveh Kanes. These were set up here as this was the main trading center for berries. Damascus, Syria and Istanbul opened coffee houses around 1530′s and Turkey in 1554. The Dutch were the first to bring coffee out of Mocha and introduce it to the rest of the world. Their first cultivation was in Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka, in 1658.

Thus coffee has rapidly gained recognition all over the world and as of now, is an integral part of every person’s morning drink.

Coffee is one of the most refreshing and rejuvenating beverages which is popular all over the world. But it is at times very difficult to understand the precise difference between the various types of coffee. Some of the major distinctive flavors can be described as below:

Americano Coffee: This is an instant classic American styled, straight black coffee topped up with water. There is always a choice of having it with hot or cold milk. It is one of the lowest-calorie coffee options. One can also drink an Americano either black, with hot and cold milk or with cream too.

Cafe Latte: It is more calorie than the normal Americano yet it has world wide popularity. It is prepared by making an espresso shot in a large cupo or mug and topping it off with aerated hot milk. It is generally in a hazelnut color and is perfect for adding flavored syrups. This coffee can be made semi-skimmed, skimmed or with soya milk.

Cappuccino: This is probably the most famous and popular beverage in the world. It is made similar to the latte but is topped half by aerated milk and the other half by more solid, foamed milk. Coffee chips and flakes are also added to it to provide an extra delicious taste. They can also be made in skimmed, semi-skimmed and soya milk.

Espresso: This is the simplest and strongest form of coffee and it is served in small quantities. It is a perfect good morning drink. As it is strong, it is advised to be taken after the meal.

Mocha: This is an indulgence which is savored by most coffee lovers. This drink contains both chocolate and coffee. It is made similarly to the latte wherein the chocolate is mixed with espresso and topped up with aerated milk. At times, chocolate sprinkles are also added to give an extra flavor to it.

Macchiato: This type of coffee also has some semblance of latte in it as it contains an espresso shot, topped with a small scoop of more solid aerated hot milk.

Decaf: One of the popular varieties of coffee for people who like to stay away from those high calories. Decaf is more popular with people who are looking out to reduce their weight and are mightily health conscious.

Skinny Coffee: This refers to a skinny version of the drink which is made from skimmed rather than semi-skimmed milk or whole milk. It is more favored by weight-conscious people.

Flavored Syrups: A multiple variety of syrups are available which are used to add flavor to the coffee. Some of the flavors include vanilla, caramel, hazelnut and cinnamon along with many others.

Coffee is thus available in different sizes and can be consumed in many variants. A smaller size of the coffee consists of one shot and a larger one may have two or three shots. Likewise Single Espresso refers to a single shot while Double Espresso has two. The coffee can be made stronger and more refreshing by adding an extra shot to it. On the contrary, a strong coffee can be made weaker by having a single shot in a larger size.
